We are proud to announce that the Norfolk and Norwich Kidney Centre celebrated its official opening on 17 December 2020. The specialist centre opened to patients in March 2020 just as the coronavirus pandemic started.

The Norfolk and Norwich Kidney Centre in Bowthorpe, Norwich, a purpose-built kidney treatment centre with state-of-the-art facilities, is one of the largest renal dialysis centres in the UK, providing life-saving treatment to over 200 patients with chronic kidney disease each week.

Mick Hartnett, Managing Director for Diaverum UK, said: “It has been a real pleasure working with the amazing renal team at Norfolk and Norwich Trust to develop the new kidney centre for local patients. The old unit was within the main hospital building, in a ward that was not designed as a dialysis space, with a relatively long journey from the car park to the waiting room. We have built a state of the art new facility, which is highly functional, accessible, warm and friendly. The new kidney centre is based away from the hospital, meaning that patients no longer have to feel like they are visiting hospital every week. The new centre has a large home therapies suite and lots of consulting and office accommodation, enabling the multi-disciplinary team to operate effectively from the new site. The new centre is a win-win for the Norfolk renal service: it provides additional, high quality capacity for the region, while freeing up precious hospital space for more acute needs. We really look forward to working with our partners at the Trust in the coming years, to deliver an outstanding service for all patients and to bring the benefits of the global Diaverum service offering to Norfolk”.
