We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Darlington Dialysis Unit in County Durham, North East of England.

The unit is operated and managed by Diaverum on behalf of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Darlington Dialysis team moved to their new state-of-the-art Dialysis Unit on Monday 21 November 2022. The service which was previously located on the grounds of Darlington Hospital, was cramped and no longer fit for purpose.

The new Dialysis Unit is a safe, comfortable and sustainable facility with improved features for both patients and staff. It provides space for a range of amenities and will be able to support the needs for dialysis in the local area for many years to come.

The Dialysis Unit offers 20 spacious dialysis stations plus four isolation rooms, four consulting rooms, a Minimal Care room, large waiting area, free and separate car parking for patients and staff as well as a seminar room for in-house training. Complimentary and individualised resources are available for patients to pass the time during treatment.

It will accommodate Nocturnal and Shared/Self-care services, thereby offering greater choice to dialysis patients in the local area. Shared care is Diaverum’s commitment to partnering with and empowering patients to be involved in their own care.

The property is close to Darlington Town Centre with excellent transport links for visiting patients.

Diaverum has a strong track record with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Darlington Dialysis Unit is one of the three clinics operated by Diaverum on behalf of the Trust. In 2011, following a competitive tendering process, Diaverum was awarded the contract to operate and manage the dialysis centres at Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees on behalf of the Trust. And in 2020, Diaverum successfully retained the management of both clinics with the addition of North Ormesby clinic. All three clinics were previously managed by Fresenius.

Dale Henderson, Clinic Manager at Darlington Dialysis Unit said: “We are excited to move to our new unit. Although we have a fondness for our old clinic, our new unit will make a great difference to our patients’ experiences. It also provides an opportunity to expand the services we offer our patients.  We are very pleased with it and grateful to everyone involved in the project”.

Our partners, patients and staff are happy with the new facility and great feedback have been received on the successful transfer of patients as well as the improved patient experience following the transfer.

Darlington Dialysis Unit meets the latest safety and environmental standards.
